Matisse, Cezanne, Picasso. L'aventure des Stein
At the Grand Palais of Paris, the Stein family collection of approximately 200 art works is exhibited. The Stein family (Leo, Gertrude, Michael and Sarah), after relocating to France, began collecting the most innovative art works of the period, showing an interest for the early paintings of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. The family would "open up" their houses to those that wished to get acquainted with the new, at the time, innovative movements. Soon, these salons became vital centres for the development of modernism.
The exhibition's pursuit is to concentrate the art works that defined the modern art, as well as to highlight the relationship of each separate member of the Stein family with the artistic course of the early 20th century.
